4. Variations of ROTAGO
4.1 Three-Player ROTAGO
4.1.1 Player Specialization. Players specialize as follows:
4.1.1a Player one. Player one is the Driver and Pitcher
4.1.1b Player two. Player two is the Fairway
4.1.1c Player three. Player three is the Putter
4.1.2 Player Position. A team may not change the playing position of any of the players. PENALTY: Two-stroke penalty for each hole where a violation occurred.
4.1.3 Player Specialization / Club Assignments. All players must follow the player specializations and club assignments as stated in ROTAGO Rule 2.4. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.1.4 Player Injury. In the case of injury or player withdrawal, the team may have a predesignated alternate who may replace the injured player without changing any positions of the other team members.
4.1.4a Forfeits. If the team does not have a predesignate alternate and a team member must withdraw for the match, the team forfeits the match.
4.2 Two-Player Rotago
4.2.1 Player Specialization. Players specialize as follows:
4.2.1a Player one. Player one is the Driver and Pitcher
4.2.1b Player two. Player two is the Fairway and Putter.
4.2.2 Player Position. A team may not change the playing position of any of the players. PENALTY: Two-stroke penalty for each hole where a violation occurred.
4.2.3 Player Specialization / Club Assignments. All players must follow the player specializations and club assignments as stated in ROTAGO Rule 2.4. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.2.4 Player Injury. In the case of injury or player withdrawal, the team forfeits the match.
4.3 Next-Up ROTAGO
4.3.1 Format. This version of ROTAGO is for teams of two, three, or four players.
4.3.2 Player Position. A team may not change the playing position of any of the players. PENALTY: Two-stroke penalty for each hole where a violation occurred.
4.3.3 Number of Shots. Each player may only take one shot per turn in the rotation.
4.3.4 Player Specialization / Club Assignments. All players must follow the player specializations and club assignments as stated in ROTAGO Rule 2.4. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.3.5 Set of Clubs. Players may use their own clubs
4.3.5a Same Clubs. All players must carry the same 14 clubs. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.3.5.b Club Assignment. All players must use the club designated for the role when taking the shot. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.3.6 Other Clubs. Clubs other than the 14 clubs designated before the match may not be in the possession of a team during the match. PENALTY: One stroke per club, per hole played by the offending team.
4.3.7 Club Substitution. No clubs may be substituted once the match has begun. PENALTY: One stroke.
4.3.8 Player Withdrawal. In the case of injury or the need for a player to withdraw, the rotation continues with the remaining players.
4.4 Optional Match Play Format
Teams may compete hole-by-hole rather than total strokes. If a team wins a hole, they earn a point, and the first team to win a predetermined number of holes (e.g., 7 out of 12) wins the match.
