Rotago Golf

ROTAGO (pronounced rō tāʹ gō) is any version of golf where players work as a team rotating turns taking shots based on a scorecard line-up provided by the team captain before the tee-off of the match. In ROTAGO, each player has a specialized talent.

Teams may use up to four players with every play made by team member in ROTAGO having an impact on the scoring of each hole. The team shares a designated set of clubs, with specific clubs assigned to specific players.

​​In ROTAGO, players specialize as follows:

     1. The Driver tees off on all holes and uses a driver and 3-wood for tee shots and

maximizing distance.

     2. The Fairway takes second shots and long approach shots from the fairway. (See

Note 1 and 2) The Fairway uses a 4-iron, 5-iron, 5-wood, and 9-wood (but may replace

the 4-iron and 9-wood with a 4-hybrid.

     3. The pitcher takes any shot not on the green but under 75 yards from  the hole.

(See Note 1 and 2.) The Pitcher handles the short game and approach shots using the 6, 7, 8 and 9 irons, a pitching wedge and a gap wedge. These shots are those that are not on the green and are 75 yards or less from the hole. 

     4. The putter is responsible for putting and specialty shots. The Putter handles all shots from the green and has access to specialty clubs for certain situations, including a putter, sand wedge, and lob wedge. The Pitcher may substitute other preferred wedges as desired as long as the team does not exceed a combined 14 clubs in the bags

When a shot is determined to be in a hazard, the team may assign the shot to the player with the club best suited to escape the situation.​
